Skills for Norfolk
Skills Economy - Investing in Norfolk's Skills Base Project
The Leitch Report (2006) sets the context for skills development and a productivity challenge for the UK as a whole. In order to become a ‘world leader’ in skills there needs to be a greater emphasis on engaging with employers and creating a genuinely ‘demand-led’ system for the planning and delivery of skills. The Norfolk Employment & Skills Board is keen to have up to date information on skills needs for all sectors of the Norfolk economy in order to ensure that skills gaps are being met by provision. In its Vision statement, the Board declares "Our vision is that of making Norfolk a county famous for its learning and skills".
This project will work with strategically significant sectors in Norfolk to identify vocational skills gaps in the workforce and explore how providers in the county can work together to deliver the skills that employers want for their workforce, and employees need for their personal development. This work will build upon work carried out by the Learning Skills Council Norfolk some four years ago, on some of the key sectors of the Norfolk economy.
As well as identifying current gaps, it will also examine future trends, to "future-proof" skills provision.
